The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has revealed why Nigeria suffered from poor leadership.
Wike explained that the broken electoral system in Nigeria has resulted in a poor political leadership in the country.
Governor speaks at the 59th Independence Day parade in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
He stated that it is a shame that Nigeria can not provide for free and fair elections, adding that poor governance coupled with endemic corruption and mismanagement have undermined the country's economy.
He said-
We pride ourselves as a democratic nation, but for 20 years, our electoral process remains widespread fraud and able to provide for free and fair elections."However, our shameful carry on as if all is well, rejecting any attempt to provide a credible electoral system, and do not take care of this monumental damage has caused and continues to cause the character and quality of our politics, leadership recruitment and nation-building."But today, it's more like 59 years of wasted dreams, chances of mismanagement and hope deferred for our country and our people as disunity, distrust, intolerance, hatred and violence continues to corrode the walls fragile weak binding of the nation."
