Bayelsa Election: Why Jonathan Is Happy About APC Victory – Abubakar
Governor of Kebbi Atiku Abubakar said former President Goodluck Jonathan was "pleased" with the Bayelsa governor of an election and the results.
NAN reports that Abubakar on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said that although on the other hand, Jonathan was happy for the victory All Progress Congress (APC) is transparent.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said David Lyon All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner after polling 352 552 votes.
Lyon beat closest rival, Duoye Yourself from People's Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 143 172 people.
Abubakar said: "We were in Bayelsa for more than 72 hours, we do not see the tires on fire, we do not see people walking, we did not hear gunshots, everyone celebrates in all the areas we passed, which indicates acceptance of our candidates, our party and the process itself.
"It is equally noteworthy that Bayelsa is the home of the former president of Nigeria and won these elections with a different party from which he belongs, has been accepted by all, including the people around him.
"And so far, from what we heard, he was also pleased with the results regardless of the differences in the party, which is an indication of the transparency of the process.
"A lot of people worked hard to make this happen, the most important, Mr. President, which always shows the parties win or lose we have to aim for free elections, transparent and fair.
"That's what will guarantee peace, conferring legitimacy and support for those elected to proudly carry out their mandate given. And in Bayelsa that we have seen demonstrations. Everyone is talking about how free, transparent and fair elections. "
