University of Port Harcourt, Uniport, has launched a policy against sexual harassment in which embrace the romance between professors and students of women now constitute a violation by those found guilty punished severely.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ndowa ES Lale at the launch ceremony of the policy, which was held in the hall Ebitime Banigo said the university decided to raise the bar on sexual harassment to ensure that young men and women put in charge of lecturers are protected, especially from the antics of a sexual predator who used his position their privileged to squeeze or train students do not want them or subordinate staff in giving them sexual favors.
He said that the management of the University in policy documents that set out the rules of engagement in terms of acceptable engagement between faculty, administrators and students, including visitors to the university. Prof Ndowa vowed that sanctions will be imposed for earrings member of staff but added that there were strong checks and balances to protect the innocent accused of built.
He also warned that any person so accused shall be considered guilty until he can prove otherwise under established rules of a fair trial. Prof Ndowa also warned that further, lectures and administrators who do not remember to tell their tailors to sew a zipper in the front of their pants should be ready to bear the consequences of their amorous liaison with a female student.
He warned that the same applied to students who abused their lecturers to award value is not feasible, saying they should be equally prepared to face the music if and when caught advertising themselves for their lecturers.
